Privacy Policy

Effective date: October 28, 2026

This policy describes what information is handled when you read neuropathologyweb.org, how the operator uses it and what choices you have. The operator is the person or organisation running Neuropathologyweb, and the words we and us refer to the operator.

A note on sensitive subjects

Readers of a site about brain disease are often thinking about their own health or a relative’s. We do not ask for medical information in order to read any page, and we ask that you do not send diagnoses, scan results or pathology reports to us by email.

Visit logs

Whenever a page of Neuropathologyweb is requested, the hosting server writes a record of it. An entry can include your IP address, the time of the request, the page asked for, your browser and device type, and the page that led you here. We use these records to keep the site available, to investigate faults and abuse, and to see in broad terms which articles on neuropathology, neurodegeneration or brain tumours are being read.

Cookies and similar technology

Neuropathologyweb may use cookies or comparable browser storage. Some support basic page function. Others, where enabled, count audiences, remember a setting, serve advertising or record which link sent a visitor to a third-party seller for affiliate attribution. A cookie set by an advertiser or analytics provider is under that provider’s control, not ours, and its notice describes what it does.

Controls in your browser

You can block or clear cookies, browse privately or add tools that restrict tracking. Where your browser sends a do-not-track or global privacy signal, we treat it as an opt-out request so far as the tools we use can respond to it. If you block everything, a saved preference or an embedded diagram or video may stop working as expected.

What you send us

When you write to [email protected], we receive your email address and whatever you put in the message. We read it to reply, to check and fix an article if you have spotted a problem, and to keep the thread in case you write again. We do not sell messages, and we will not publish one without asking you first.

Newsletters and forms

Should the site offer a newsletter or a form, the address and details you give are used for the single purpose you signed up for, such as sending new articles on brain tumours or dementia. You can leave a mailing list at any time through the instructions in a message or by emailing us.

Outside services

Operating a site like this involves providers beyond our control. They may include hosting and delivery networks, analytics tools, advertising and affiliate networks, and embedded content such as videos or diagrams. They may receive technical details of your visit so their service can work, and they handle that data under their own notices.

Retention

Visit records are not held indefinitely; after a short period they are removed or boiled down to counts that identify nobody. Emails stay while they help us reply, correct an article or meet a legal duty, and are deleted once that need has passed.

Your rights

Depending on your location, the law may let you ask us to tell you what personal data we hold, to fix it, to delete it, to limit or object to certain uses, or to take back a consent you gave. To make a request, email [email protected] and say what you would like us to do. Before acting we may ask for proof that the request comes from you, and we will respond within whatever time limit applies.

Children

Neuropathologyweb is written for adults and older students and is not aimed at children under 13. We have no wish to gather data from young children and do not do so on purpose. If a parent or guardian tells us a child has emailed us, we will remove the message.

Security

We take reasonable measures to protect information, including encrypted connections and restricted access to the inbox. No system for storing or sending data over the internet is perfectly secure, so we cannot guarantee complete protection.

Data crossing borders

Some of the providers we rely on may handle data in other countries, where the rules can differ from those in your own. By using the site you accept that information about your visit may be processed in this way.

Changes to this policy

This policy will be updated when our tools, our practices or legal requirements shift. The effective date at the top marks the start of the current version, and reading the site after that date means the updated wording applies to you.
